Letter : Albion, [Michigan], to his father, 1849 Jan 14.

ALS written a month after President Polk's message to Congress announcing the gold discoveries in California. Frank writes about business, his plans to open another shop (apparently a general store), and neighbors who are raising a company to go overland to California in the spring, asking his father for advice. His wife Esther also writes a page in which she expresses the hope that Frank will not go to California.
